We know going to the doctor isn’t always on the top of everyone’s “to-do” list. Because of this, it can be very easy to dismiss symptoms. What might become part of your everyday life, can be a subtle sign that something more serious is occurring. Here are some commonly ignored symptoms:

Sudden Intense Headaches

Headaches are a common complaint. It is normal to have a headache now and then. However, if you have an immediate, intense headache, then you need to seek medical attention right away. This may be a sign of a ruptured aneurysm.

Chest Pain

You should always go to the emergency room if you have intense pain in your chest. If the pain is accompanied by jaw pain, nausea and shortness of breath, then this may be a sign of a heart attack. Though it can also be a sign of something less serious, such as acid reflux, only a physician can determine the cause of your chest pain.

Unexplained Weight Loss

If you have lost more than 5 percent of your body weight and you do not know why then you should see a physician. Weight loss can be a sign of several illnesses, including cancer. It is estimated that 36 percent of older people who have unexplained weight loss have a disease.

It may also be a sign of hyperthyroidism. Other symptoms of hyperthyroidism include sweating, nervousness, and increased appetite. Additionally, if weight loss is accompanied by increased thirst and urination, then this can be a sign of diabetes.

High Fever

A fever is not always a cause for concern because it is the body’s way of fighting an infection. However, you should see a doctor if your fever is over 103 degrees Fahrenheit. You should also see a doctor if you have a chronic low-grade fever — this may be a sign of cancer.
